The Board of Directors of Presbyterians Protecting Life (PPL) announces with excitement and gratitude to God their call to Rev. Deborah Hollifield as executive director. Deborah will begin her leadership role with PPL on January 1. Deborah has served with wisdom, wit, and grace on the PPL Board of Directors since 2014.

Before coming to PPL, Deborah spent 17 years as an elected Justice of the Peace in Texas. She then entered Austin Presbyterian Seminary, where she earned her M.Div. followed by serving congregations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. She and her husband, Chris, a/k/a "My Gift From God," live on a farm in North Texas in a house built by MGFG himself, shared with Rosie and Frankie (two corgis a/k/a "The Breakfast Burritos") and varying numbers of barn cats. She loves to garden and is very proud of the ones that survive! Deborah and Chris are parents to Jake, and Nana and Grandad to Gray Ocean, Valencia Iris and Thea Clementine. "Asked about her movie aspirations, Deborah said, "I'd like the Donna Reed role in 'It's a Wonderful Life,' or pretty much any role opposite Jimmy Stewart (a good Presbyterian elder!)"

There will be no immediate changes in the location of the PPL office or PPL's contact information as Mrs. Marie Bowen will not be leaving PPL but shifting to a new role as administrative director. This less public role will allow her to better care for her husband as they progress together on his journey through Alzheimer's.

What Deborah says about her new call . . .

"I believe that the task of equipping the saints includes grounding them in a comprehensive understanding of God's view of the value of all human life."

She says of PPL's focus on the church--specifically Presbyterian and other Reformed denominations:

"Only the church can speak the language of Life:

    • It is God who is sovereign over human life
    • Human beings are created in God's image.
    • God doesn't place any conditions on our circumstances or the quality of our lives before God finds us valuable.
    • It is the church that sets the example and has the record of rescuing infants, caring for women and orphans and the sick and elderly.
    • And only the church can offer God's forgiveness for sin and relieve the guilt that we carry."
