James’ dad writes to moms of unborn babies who are diagnosed with Down Syndrome PDF Print E-mail
Written by R. David Aldridge

AldridgeIf you just found out that not only are you pregnant, but that it is very likely that your baby will have Down Syndrome, my heart goes out to you. You are facing something we did not face. We learned of James' additional chromosome the day he was born. Had we known months before that James was to have Down Syndrome, I am sure a flood and fury of thoughts would have raged in our hearts and minds. What would we have done? Probably the same thing—have James. But I know for sure that we would have been on the torment rack, second-guessing ourselves. Maybe that is where you are.

PPL presents vision for equipping leaders for life affirming ministry at two Presbyterian assemblies PDF Print E-mail

PCA booth 2017sm"Moving beyond statements and politics to being a pro-life church" was the topic addressed by PPL's Executive Director, Marie Bowen, at a PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) General Assembly Seminar. In her presentation, Bowen pointed to the common biblical foundation shared by PPL and the PCA that guides us to value every human life, born and unborn. She cast a vision for equipping leaders for life ministry in congregations. The need is great, but so are the gifts and resources that God has given the church for meeting those very points of need where human life is threatened in both congregation and community.

A firm foundation: Christian theology & abortion, Part 2 PDF Print E-mail

23 June 4As the Board of Directors of Presbyterians Pro-Life listens for God's voice and looks for evidence of his leading into the future, we build our ministry on a biblical foundation. In Part 2 of this 1995 document, we review the church's involvement in issues of life and consider our response in light of the role of the Holy Spirit, and the doctrine of the Church.

We Claim the Gift of the Holy Spirit

The church has always proclaimed that we are enabled to live as faithful disciples of Christ by the gift of the Holy Spirit. We are no longer dependent upon our own powers, or captive to our own desires and wills, but rather we are enabled to live by God's will and to walk in his ways by the Spirit of Christ living in us.

NPRC workshops focus on life and the church PDF Print E-mail

NPRCNational Pro-Life Religious Council (NPRC) members present popular workshops annually at the National Right to Life Convention. Marie Bowen, PPL's Executive Director, participated in two of those workshops last month in Milwaukee, WS.

Kirk van der Swaagh, a pastor in the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference, presented with Bowen in a workshop titled "How to overcome apathy and opposition in all denominations." His tips are helpful for pro-life Presbyterians who often encounter apathy when advocating for the unborn in pro-life denominations and direct opposition in the Presbyterian Church (USA) which condones and supports abortion.

Written by Presbyterians Pro-Life

babyhandsmPresbyterians Pro-Life has been around for almost 4 decades. It is appropriate that we take a little time for renovation. A look at our biblical foundation expressed in this 1995 publication, reveals a distinctly Presbyterian view of abortion. It is time to build something new upon it that helps us to equip more Presbyterians to live out the tenets of our faith by loving and promoting human life in hands on ways.

The vision to which Presbyterians Pro-Life calls the church is founded upon the central doctrines of the biblical faith of the church universal for two thousand years. We have not introduced something new into the theology of the church by opposing abortion and calling the church to be a community in which the love of God is demonstrated in concrete ways. Rather we speak and act on the basis of the theology which the church has claimed as its own for centuries.
