LifeDisciplesThe Life Team of Fair Oaks Church is piloting a "first-of-its-kind resource" to equip the church minister to women and men considering abortion. Last fall the Team participated in a DVD training, Making Life Disciples, from Care Net, a national organization of pregnancy centers.

"This curriculum is just outstanding! It covers listening skills, 'care-frontation', pregnancy and abortion education, and life-affirming alternatives," said Amy Scherschligt, leader of the team.

She affirmed the team is now equipped to offer compassion, hope, help and discipleship to anyone in the church or community in an unsupported pregnancy. "We are taking a missionary mindset; we are not counselors. We just don't want anyone to be alone in a difficult pregnancy decision," Amy said.

She sees this as an opportunity for the church to build stronger bridges with the local pregnancy centers as the Team shares in the ministry to abortion-vulnerable women. The team will help connect them to community resources as well as "love them into the church family."

"Thanks to Care Net's new resource, our Team has an opportunity to evangelize and disciple women and men. We hope to enfold them into our church family," Amy said.

Care Net says the curriculum is intended to do more than just train churches to deal with a series of transactions. The goal is ongoing discipleship that equips the church to transform the lives of people. Amy concludes: "Abortion is happening in the church and I love how Care Net's president Roland Warren says that abortion is a log in our eye as Christians compared to a speck in the culture's eye."
