"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

These verses speak of four benefits of joining together and speak to the purpose of Local PPL Chapters. First, it makes us more productive in our work. Second, we can help each other in times of fatigue and discouragement. Third, we warm each other with fellowship (both physically and spiritually). And, fourth, we protect each other in battle.

Binding together in work and fellowship will help us overcome the helplessness of isolation. That isolation is an important reason why individuals, families, and perhaps even churches, leave the PC(USA) and why even in denominations who hold pro-life views many are silent and inactive in speaking out to a culture against abortion, euthanasia and other threats to human life.

God has charged the church with the responsibility of teaching and upholding spiritual and moral truth, and with putting that into practice. It is crucially important to call the people of God back to the truth about our responsibility to all those who bear the image of God, particularly those who are the most vulnerable. That is exactly the meaning of Scripture's admonition to care for "widows and orphans."

We want to see both the policy of our denominations and the hearts of Presbyterians change. We want God's people to bow in repentance and complete turning away from the evil of abortion and any other action that takes the lives of innocent human beings.

To do that we need chapters that encourage each other. We need to call up those who are silent. We need to extend the Gospel to those who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God in abortion, just as in any other area of life. We need a strong, firm witness to spread throughout our culture like salt, like leaven. We need many active chapters of PPL.
